"The Colors of Burano"
©David A. Ziser
This is an image I captured a few days ago while on a small side trip to the island of Burano while visiting Venice, Italy. Burano is a quaint, mostly tourist free fishing town (as you can see from the lack of people above) just a short boat ride from the hustle and bustle of a very busy Venice. Burano is also home to the best handmade lace makers in the world.
The colors of the small town are simply beautiful as this image testifies. As all the homes look very similar, and as the story goes, the women of the town painted their houses in bright colors so their husbands could find his way home to the correct home and their wife, not the neighbor’s wife, after an evening of reverie with his fellow fishermen. Or, so said the tour guide ;~)
Point the camera anywhere and you will get a “picture postcard” result. The weather during our visit was perfect for the photographs I made that day. The smooth water in the canals also contributed to the feel of simple tranquility of this image.
Burano also lends itself to the HDR technique I used when making this image. I set my camera to Art Vivid, Auto bracket and shot away. A further slight tweak in Lightroom 4 finished the result I wanted.
Camera specs: Canon 5D Mark III fitted with Tamron 28-300mm VC lens at 28mm, F8.0 @1/800 second, ISO 800. Enjoy! -David
